Dr Leroy Logan MBE

In the second of our Inspiring Leadership Interviews, Soul Leader founder Rasheed Ogunlaru speaks with Dr Leroy Logan MBE.

Leroy Logan is a former superintendent in the Metropolitan police. He is also a former chair and founding member of the Black Police Association. He retired from policing in 2013 after 30 years’ service.

Leroy is one of UK’s most highly decorated and well known black police officers. A respected commentator on policing in black communities, he believes that there is still much work to do in creating a fairer and more equitable criminal justice system.

Since his retirement, Leroy has built a reputation as a go-to person expert, using his decades of experience to give insightful, critical analysis on current events surrounding our justice system.

He’s been called upon by the likes of Channel 4, Good Morning Britain, The Guardian, LBC, BBC Radio 4, HARDTalk and more. In 2020, Logan published his auto-biography Closing Ranks, My Life as a Cop which described his time as a senior police officer in London.

The same year Oscar Winning Director Steve McQueen dramatised Leroy’s story as part of his Small Axe series of films “Red, White and Blue”. Logan was played by the actor John Boyega.
